TANJONG PAGAR IS THE WORST-RUN TOWN COUNCIL IN S’PORE?

In this regards, Tanjong Pagar’s “deficit before grant per elector” is noticeably the worst among the GRCs, at $50 per elector and is 50% higher than AHPETC. Jurong TC’s “deficit before grant per elector” is the best at $26 per elector, but that is partly because it charges among the highest service fees per elector. When you put all these in context, AHPETC looks quite well-run, doesn’t it? It charges among the least, per elector, compared to the other GRCs.

PAP DOESN’T REPAIR PLAYGROUND IN THEIR OWN CONSTITUENCY, STILL GOT TIME TO FAULT AHPETC?

I want to report on the shockingly dreadful condition of kids playground in Tampines north smacked right in the backyard of Tampines MP/Town Council Chairman Baey Yam Keng's constituency. Ironically this kids playground is right in front of the food court where Baey holds his monthly "kopitalk". Wonder how he can go there every month to talk cock and not notice the deplorable condition of the kids playground right in front of him?

HOUGANG WOMAN SUES AHPETC TO DEMAND REFUND OF S&CC FEES

37 year-old corporate travel manager Melinda Teo is suing Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) to get a refund for the service and conservancy charges (S&CC) she paid to them between November last year and May this year. According to Teo, who lives in Parkland Residences, a Design, Build and Sell Scheme estate, she said she should not have paid the fees to the Workers' Party (WP) as it took over the management and maintenance of the property only since 1st June.

LAWRENCE WONG: NOTHING WRONG WITH MY COMMENTARY ABOUT AHPETC

The Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) last Saturday ("Town council saga: Workers' Party replies") took issue with my commentary ("WP town council saga: Why lapses cannot be swept under the carpet"; June 5). But my commentary was drawn from key findings of the court. There is no reason why the AHPETC should find it "surprising and puzzling", especially since its chairman Sylvia Lim has said that it "respects the court's decision".

SYLVIA LIM: MND MISREPRESENTING AHPETC’S STAND ON $14 MILLION GRANT

We refer to the Ministry of National Development (MND)’s media release on 4 June 2015 evening on its apparent reasons for an expedited appeal hearing before the Court of Appeal. It is a gross misrepresentation and wrong of MND to say that Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) wants to have government grants “without conditions and accountability”.

IT IS S’PORE’S LOSS WHEN EX-FOREIGN MINISTER GEORGE YEO WAS KICKED OUT

I read about Mr George Yeo’s appointment as Chancellor of Nalanda University in India and I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment. I think George Yeo is an exceptional man. So Aljunied residents have got their opposition - and a financially-suspect town council. As for Parliament, we all have some kind of (limited) engagement in Parliament. Was this worth the price of a good man?

MND REFUSES TO RELEASE $14 MILLION IN GRANTS TO AHPETC

Today (29 May), MND filed an appeal against the High Court’s decision. MND still wants independent accountants to be appointed to AHPETC. With the appointment, town council payments from grants, exceeding certain thresholds will have to be co-signed by the independent accountants. MND said, “The Government cannot disburse public funds to AHPETC in the current circumstances, given the very serious findings by the Auditor-General’s Office (AGO) and the High Court.”
