AVA TO IMPLEMENT STRICTER LICENSING REQUIREMENTS FOR PET DOGS FROM 1 MAR
31 January 2017: In Nov 2016, the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) announced plans to enhance the pet dog licensing regime. The objective is to (a) improve the traceability of pet dogs in Singapore, especially in the event of a disease outbreak such as rabies, (b) discourage pet abandonment, and (c) help reunite lost dogs with their owners. The relevant regulations have been amended today, and the new licensing regime will take effect from 1 March 2017.

According to one "Aileen Tan", she discovered a PRC shop called Song Hua Jiang Restaurant selling braised dog meat on their menu. The address of the restaurant: Blk 350 Jurong East Ave 1 #01-1233 S(600350). She asked SPCA whether the sale of dog meat is legal in Singapore. She also posted a link to the menu of the restaurant which allegedly sells the dog meat item in its menu. Another concerned reader has also contributed a photo of the offensive menu item.
