Singaporeans have been excited by the recent publication of the AGO report which seems to have uncovered some significant lapses. I am sorry to rain on your parade but it is just another exercise in selective tweaking and propaganda. Yes, it uncovers a few lapses but fails to follow through or tackle the more dangerous and worrying fundamental conflicts of interests in our accounts

Findings highlighting several lapses at Admiralty Citizen’s Consultative Committee (CCC) in the Auditor-General’s Report are being taken seriously, said Members of Parliament for Sembawang GRC Khaw Boon Wan and Vikram Nair*. AGO said that after the rat holes were found, NEA did not actively follow up with the other organisations, to ensure that the necessary steps were taken to eradicate the pests. As at 31 March 2014, TP had invested $62.50 million in bonds. AGO's test checks of five bonds totalling $61.50 million revealed that for all the five bonds, TP had proceeded to make the investments before obtaining the requisite approval from its Investment Committee.

Aljunied Hougang Punggol East Town Council has issued some responses to the Auditor-General's Office report, which had reported on 5 "major lapses" in AHPETC's accounts.

The Auditor-General's Office (AGO) today, 9 February, issued a report highlighting five "major lapses" in AHPETC's accounts for Financial Year 2012-13. Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan will move a motion for debate in Parliaent on Thursday based on this report.

In the case of National Parks Board (NParks), AGO was so annoyed at an NParks officer’s actions in creating and backdating documents to pass audit and MND’s attempt to be lenient towards the said errant officer that AGO literally rebuked MND. The case revolved around the development of Gardens by the Bay. This project was undertaken by NParks which is a statutory board under the purview of MND, Khaw’s ministry. During the audit of the project, AGO found out that certain documents furnished by NParks upon AGO’s request could have been created and backdated to give the impression that they existed at the time when the relevant transactions took place.

Eight agencies were cited by the Auditor-General's Office (AGO) for lapses in procurement procedures. Among those highlighted in its report for the Financial Year 2013/14 released on Thursday (July 17) was the National Library Board (NLB)'s computerised system, implemented in 2012. The system, meant to help the selection and acquisition of books from its panel of vendors "with minimal human intervention", suffered from "logic flaws and inadequacies", according to the AGO.
