S’PORE POLICE WARNS OF NEW SMARTPHONE MALWARE USED TO STEAL BANKING INFO

The Police have been informed by members of public who had received phone calls purportedly from courier companies and/or government officials, instructing them to download certain applications onto their mobile phones. These applications when downloaded may introduce malware into their mobile phones that may allow scammers to gain access to any incoming messages which could lead to the theft of banking credentials and other personal information.

CHINA WARNS PRC TOURISTS AGAINST BUYING ELECTRONICS IN SINGAPORE

The Chinese embassy in Singapore has warned its citizens to beware of fraud when buying mobile phones and other electronic products here. A notice posted on China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on Wednesday (Nov 5) said the embassy received many reports last year of Chinese tourists encountering fraud when purchasing electronic goods like mobile phones in Singapore.

Ebola…the reactions of neighbouring countries compared with Singapore: As for Singapore, this is what MOH advises: “Returning travellers from affected areas or travellers who suspect that they have been exposed to Ebola virus should seek immediate medical attention and mention their recent travel to the attending physician if they develop any disease symptoms while travelling in or within 3 weeks of being in any of the areas.” Just an advisory.
