NETS Apologise For 'Brownface' Advertisement, Just Gets Slap On Wrist

The ad is part of a NETS campaign that also involves a multi agency effort, led by Enterprise Singapore, and participated by the National Environment Agency, the Housing Board and JTC Corporation. All the government agencies involved in the brownface ad have so far not said anything about this fiasco. The silence is deafening, but at the same time, something expected.

MISLEADING ADVERTISEMENT ON RETURNS OF 12%?

In this connection, GIC’s latest 20 years’ and Temasek’s “from inception” annualised returns are 5.1 per cent (in US$ terms – lower if in S$ terms) and 16 per cent (in S$ terms), respectively. The highest return ever publicly disclosed by the GIC was 8.2 per cent (in S$ terms) for the 25 years from the GIC’s inception in 1981 till 2006.

So, how many fund managers in Singapore have been able to consistently give 12 per cent per annum returns, as described in the advertisement?

CATHAY STANDS BY PINK DOT, ALMOST WANTED TO SCREEN ADS IN CINEMAS

Following the commotion about Pink Dot's advertisement in Cathay Cineleisure, Cathay spokesperson's responded by standing by its decision and saying it is an inclusive company which accepts a culture of equality. Funny why some people are making a fuss over this now as Cathay has been openly supporting the cause for a few years already. It was a corporate sponsor and even wanted to screen Pink Dot's trailer in its cinemas if not for strict censorship by the Media Development Authority. The authorities have also confirmed that Pink Dot organisers are allowed to carry out their promotional activities because they already have a licence.

This is featured on the front page, apparently to promote Orchard Gateway's men's fashion offerings at "Men's Zone @L4". http://www.orchardgateway.sg/menszone/index.php

LATEST CARLS JUNIOR ADVERT IS SEXIST AND DEGRADING TO WOMEN

I want to bring your attention to this Carls Junior advertisement I saw placed outside their fast food restaurant. It says "EVERYBODY LOVES BIG BREAST". Frankly, I am shocked that such a sexist and degrading advertisement exists in Singapore. Is Carls Junior telling us that women with small or medium sized breasts are worthless and that nobody wants them?

ADVERT OF WOMAN'S BREAST CAUSES 500 CAR CRASHES IN 24 HOURS

An advertisement showing a woman's bare breasts has reportedly caused more than 500 accidents in a single day after a poorly-thought out promotional campaign. The photograph shows a woman cupping her breasts with her hand, with a thin blue strip across the nipples. It was placed on the side of 30 vans in Moscow, Russia. The advert simply read: 'They attract'. However, as soon as the vans hit the city’s streets, cars started crashing into one another.
