Administration of Justice Bill

WP MP DANIEL GOH: ADMIN OF JUSTICE BILL CASTS FEARFUL SHADOW ON S'PORE, MY FAMILY FEELS LESS SECURE

Mdm Speaker, I join my Workers’ Party colleagues to oppose this Bill. As an ordinary person who relies on the law to protect my family, I find this proposed law casts too large and fearful a shadow on the whole of Singapore and diminishes my sense of security for my family. Reading this Bill as an ordinary person sends a chill down my spine. I sincerely hope this is not the intended effect of the Bill. The chilling part is sub judice contempt.

ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE BILL: ALL 9 NMPS SHD BE REMOVED

The 9 NMP seats should be removed. Their performance in Parliament clearly demonstrated by the passage of the Administration of Justice Bill, shows that they are not just "duckweeds" but plastic, decorative flowers. Convert the NMP seats to NCMP seats and combine with the 3 existing NCMP seats to allocate a total of 12 seats without the present caps on the basis of opposition popular vote.

NMP KOK EXPLAINS HE TRIED HIS BEST TO CHECK THE GOVT BUT VOTED YES TO CONTEMPT OF COURT BILL

Since the Parliamentary Debate on the Administration of Justice (Protection) Bill on 15 August 2016 I have received many tags and messages from various people questioning my vote in support of it. Quite a number of them have expressed disappointment and anger. I can understand that. I have taken some time to process what happened and written this reflection to share how I reached that decision, and I hope this will deepen my learning of this prolonged process.

NMP KUIK: S'POREANS CAN STILL SPEAK UP ON CURRENT ISSUES DESPITE ADMIN OF JUSTICE BILL

My perspective and reasons may be different from the other 2 NMPs but we were all in agreement about what was the most strategic collective decision.
In a nutshell though, if you are worried that you cannot speak up on current issues on FB, whatsapp, coffeeshops etc. stuff now that the law is in place, you need not be worried. Whatever you want to speak up on, keep speaking up on it without fear. If you see an injustice, speak. If you see a cruelty, speak. Singapore is a better place if we courageously speak up on the things we love and want to protect.

WP FIGHTS VALIANTLY WITH PAP OVER ADMIN OF JUSTICE BILL, FAILS TO STOP ITS PASSING

This bill is not only unnecessary, it also gives to the executive and the police powers that they currently do not have that would have a chilling effect on fair criticism and public discussion. If enacted, this law runs a very high risk of causing the unintended consequences of undermining the public's trust in the Government in the long run.

WP BERNARD CHEN: DONT BE DISTRACTED BY SCHOOLING'S WIN, PAY ATTENTION TO NEW JUSTICE BILL

While we celebrate and honour the achievement of Joseph Schooling, for the progress of this nation we cannot afford to pay scant or no attention to today's debate on the Administration of Justice (Protection) Bill, which is set to be push through with ease by the PAP's overwhelming parliamentary majority. While the government exhort our people to be free and chase that rainbow, the very same government is going to hand itself even greater powers in the name of the public interest while appropriating the national pride, unity and the immense goodwill from that sporting milestone to move on from the issue.
