MALAYSIAN DRUNK DRIVER WHO KILLED CERTIS CISCO OFFICER IN ACCIDENT JAILED

A Malaysian man, Manuel Ang Boon Jiat, 29, was jailed for one and a half years and disqualified from driving here for 10 years, for driving while drunk and killing an on-duty Certis Cisco Auxiliary officer. In February this year, Ang who had 12 glasses of beer, got into his car and failed to stop near the Tuas Checkpoint, eventually killing one of three officers on duty diverting traffic there. Reports indicated that Ang, who was a salesman in Singapore, was on his way back to his home in Johor Bahru after a night of merry-making. At the same time, the officer, Lance Corporal Norman Samri, 33 and two other fellow colleagues were diverting traffic at the Tuas Checkpoint Departure Viaduct after a minor accident there around 1am on Feb 10. They were wearing yellow reflective vests with blinker lights placed on their shoulders, which can be easily seen. However, Ang failed to notice them, and failed to stop in time. He hit Lance Corporal Norman, who was standing in the centre lane of the three-lane road. He was flung upwards before landing near a concrete barrier on the extreme right lane. The other two Certis Cisco officers managed to jump out of the way.

RED CAR FLIPS INTO DIVIDER, FLYING DEBRIS HITS TWO OTHER CARS

Another accident that continues this movie style crash happened at Buangkok on Thursday. The driver of a red car lost control of his vehicle, resulting in the crash and the vehicle overturning on the road divider, sending debris flying and striking two other cars. The accident happened at Buangkok Drive towards Buangkok East early on Thursday morning. Three people were in the car, the driver, a man in his 40s, a teenage girl and an elderly woman. Passers-by managed to pull all three out of the car. SCDF reported that all three had minor injuries, and none went to hospital. Police did not say how the accident actually took place. They are still investigating.

ANOTHER HORRIFIC ACCIDENT IN SINGAPORE SEES A MAN TRAPPED IN HIS VAN

In a spate of horrific accidents to have occurred on Monday, another incident saw the SCDF had to cut open the driver's door of one of the accident vehicles to free the driver. In this particular accident, a trailer and van collided in Tuas, which caused the front of the van to cave in and trapped the van driver. SCDF officers were seen frantically trying to cut open the door of the van to free the trapped man. The accident, which happened at the junction of Pioneer Road and Tuas West Road, involved only the two vehicles. SCDF confirmed that a man in his 20s, who was the van driver, had multiple injuries and sent to National University Hospital.

ONE SINGAPOREAN INJURED IN ACCIDENT INVOLVING EXPRESS BUS AND LORRY

Nine people, including a Singaporean, were injured when an Express bus they were travelling in from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, hit the back of a goods lorry. The accident happened at the North South highway on Thursday night. The bus was carrying 24 passengers then. The Malaysian police said that the bus driver suffered a broken right arm, while eight other passengers suffered injuries to their hands, legs, face and head. Amongst the injured was one Singaporean, although the names of all the injured and their specific injuries were not made public. The police also indicated that the accident happened due to the probability that the bus driver lost control of his bus.

2 POLICE OFFICERS HURT IN ACCIDENT INVOLVING CAR THAT SPED OFF FROM ROAD BLOCK

Just a day after a traffic police officer tragically lost his life in an accident while on duty, another two police officers were taken to hospital after an accident following a car chase with a vehicle that evaded a road block. The accident happened in the early hours of Friday morning. The man driving the car, a 43 year old man whose name was not released by the police, was stopped at a road block along Mackenzie Road, but he had refused to comply with a police officer's instructions. He subsequently sped off and in the ensuing pursuit, the police car and the man's car was involved in an accident at Normanton Road. This resulted in the police car smashed into a flight of stairs. Two officers were taken to NUH, but it is understood that their injuries are minor.

ANOTHER CAR CATCHES FIRE AFTER ACCIDENT WITH TIPPER TRUCK

Singapore is really getting all kinds of fires happening lately. Hosue fire, building fire, car fire. Today, a car caught fire along Clementi Road. SCDF said they were alerted to the incident at 1:07pm today. No one was reportedly injured in the accident. Media reports indicated that it was a grey Mitsubishi car that caught fire at the junction of Clementi Road and Clementi Avenue 2. It was understood that the car collided with a tipper truck before it caught fire. The fire involved the engine compartment of the car.
