MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO RAPING HIS 8-YEARS-OLD COUSIN

A man admitted to raping his cousin 14 years ago, when she was eight, and he, in his teens. The accused, who is now 31, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one of three charges of raping his young cousin at a staircase landing of a Housing Board flat in the north sometime in mid-1999. His cousin is now 22 years old. The victim only made a police report in August, 2011. The accused will be sentenced on Jan 29. He faces up to 20 years' jail, fine or caning.

Police arrest two men for fighting in a moving MRT train on Jan 11; Both suspects were apprehended yesterday following investigations. The two men who fought each other on an MRT train, in an incident that was filmed and went viral, have been arrested, the police said today (Jan 21). On Jan 11, the police were alerted of a fight between two men in the 40s on board a moving MRT train, somewhere between Khatib and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations.

Looking at his track record, this is not the first time Desmond Kuek being caught out of his depth. In July 2010, after leaving the SAF, Desmond Kuek was appointed Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resource. However, Desmond Kuek only lasted for 3 months as Permanent Secretary and quietly left the service soon after. SMRT should take cue from the Singapore Government and get rid of this dead weight at once. The quicker he goes, the faster we get our MRT back on track!

SITI HADIJAH MOHAMED SIN CHARGED WITH ILL-TREATING 2-YEARS-OLD STUDENT

The former childcare teacher who allegedly broke the leg of a two-year-old boy was charged in a district court on Tuesday with ill-treating him. The alleged offence of Siti Hadijah Mohamed Sin, 51, who had been a part-time teacher at a My First Skool branch in Toa Payoh, was caught on the centre's security camera last July. She is said to have grabbed him by his upper arms and heaved him backwards onto the floor twice. This allegedly caused a hairline fracture in his left shin.

China seems more civil than us for this. Of course, this could be my experience alone. Annie brought me to KTV with her friends. One of them selected a few national songs. PTC: Fare hike and breakdowns are separate issues

While yesterday's train delay led some people to comment that fares should not go up when trains are still breaking down, the Public Transport Council (PTC) has said that the two issues should be kept separate. PTC chairman Gerard Ee said the raising of fares is to cover rising costs for operators SMRT and SBS Transit, even as he noted that service reliability has to improve. Staff and material costs have spiralled upwards even as operators have been trying to improve productivity in the past few months.

Bill seeks to give police extra powers in Little India area

Those who knock back beers in public outside the permitted hours or whose behaviour could cause a riot may be banned from Little India for up to 30 days. Police and auxiliary police officers will have the authority to ask those in the area or who are about to enter it to state their names and addresses and why they are there, to empty their bags and pockets and to strip search them. They may use force to remove someone from the zone.
