2013 O-Level results to be released on Jan 13

The results of the 2013 Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (GCE ‘O’ Level) Examination will be released on Jan 13, the Ministry of Education announced today (Jan 8). School candidates may collect their results from their schools at 2.00pm on Jan 13, a Monday. Private candidates will be informed of their results by post, and they can also access their results through the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board website at http://www.seab.gov.sg from 2.00pm on Jan 13.

S’pore Poly opens perfumery, cosmetic facility

Final year Singapore Polytechnic (SP) student Tiffany Chin no longer needs to jostle for space in the laboratory with the launch yesterday of a new S$1 million facility for the perfumery and cosmetic science diploma programme, the only one of its kind here. “Now, there is more room, equipment and things (we) can do there,” said the 19-year-old at the opening ceremony.

Singapore must ease ‘bandwidth tax’ on the poor

The PAP Government, however, contends there is no shortage of help schemes for the poor. In November last year, Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing defended Singapore’s kueh lapis approach for helping low-income Singaporeans as being more targeted and flexible in meeting their needs than a single poverty line. Poor households need only to apply for the various social assistance programmes that subsidise housing, childcare, healthcare and eldercare.

Two honoured for rescuing victims from burning car

Two individuals were recognised today (Jan 6) for rescuing two accident victims trapped in a burning car last week. Mr Lim Hong Kai, 53, and Mr Yan Zhen Jun, 44, were honoured by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) with the Public Spiritedness Award for their bravery by Colonel Ling Young Ern, Commander of the 4th Civil Defence Division.

Former MM Lee Kuan Yew conferred Russia’s Order of Honour

The President of the Russian Federation, Mr Vladimir Putin, has conferred the Order of Honour on Singapore’s former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. The Order of Honour was presented by His Excellency Mr Leonid Moiseev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Singapore, to Mr Lee today (Jan 6) at the Istana.
