[YOUR LETTERS] My Take On The PM vs Roy Ngerng Case

So, he has to ask Roy to apologise, remove the relevant content, and pay for damages. In two other similar cases, nobody went to court. Those two other persons can still criticize the PM. In fact, they have, in some cases, done a better job. Roy deliberately aggravated the situation. The PM has to press charges. I feel sad for Roy and have tried to advice him on his Facebook.

[YOUR LETTERS] TIME FOR SINGAPORE TO ABOLISH THE DEATH PENALTY

So, it is completely regressive in terms of human rights, and another step away from an enlightened society when Law Minister K Shanmugam recently said that he is in favour of imposing the death penalty on criminals who sexually assault women or abuse children, and the victim dies. "My thinking is that there should be a default death sentence for those who rape or sexually assault women, resulting in the victim's death, and for those who hurt a child and the child ends up dead. The accused in such cases should face the death penalty, unless he can prove why there shouldn't be such a penalty", said the Law Minister.

Commemorative birth certs are useless, Parents need more monetary support

But are these items what young Singaporean parents truly need? With the cost of living shooting up year after year with an end in sight, what parents need are tangible support to help raise future Singaporeans. Rather than waste taxpayers money on useless memorabilia, why not spend the money on increasing the baby bonus given out during the year? The Government needs to get their priorities right and spend Singapore's valuable and finite resources on the things that matter.

[YOUR LETTERS] CPF WEBSITE UNABLE TO EXPLAIN CPF POLICIES CLEARLY AND CONFUSE SINGAPOREANS

My dad is semi-retired and he is very concerned about the latest changes in the CPF minimum sum scheme. Honestly, I'm only in my mid-twenties and CPF MS doesn't affect me much. Out of curiosity, I searched around the internet to understand more about CPF MS but I was very disappointed because the CPF website itself is so difficult to navigate and it does not explain itself well at all. It is very frustrating.

[YOUR LETTERS] HOW COME ATTORNEY GENERAL CHAMBERS NEVER CHARGE CHC PASTOR TAN KIM HOCK FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT?

I am outraged when I saw a tweet by City Harvest Church Pastor Tan Kim Hock who posted "I ALSO NOTICED THAT UNDER THE SUN THERE IS EVIL IN THE COURTROOM. YES, even the courts of law are corrupt!" Isn't that contempt of court when the trials are ongoing? Singapore Courts have often use Contempt of Court to silence prominent PAP critics such as Alex Au and cartoonist Leslie Chew.

[YOUR LETTERS] TRANSPORT AUTHORITIES FORCING SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS TO DISTRIBUTE FLYERS?

My son is a student in Ping Yi Secondary School. The school has asked my son and his friends to distribute flyers to the public at bus stops to raise awareness about the new feeder bus service 222 in Chai Chee. This is outrageous! Why do you need to use students to raise awareness of a profit driven organisation? Their exams are also around the corner. Why are the transport authorities so desperate now?

[YOUR LETTERS] We should not support the petition against STOMP

In the name of freedom of speech and internet, STOMP should also not be regulated by MDA and the government because it will signal to them that we are ok with them taking away our right to free speech and the voice of society's conscience. That is why I'm a little surprised that the #FreeMyInternet movement did not say anything to stand up for STOMP when they did issue a statement against the regulation of the Mothership website. I think it is not fair and abit of a hypocrite to support the freedom of one website but not another. We must ensure that all websites are not regulated by the government.
