THE PERFECT POPULATION SIZE FOR ME IS 4 MILLION

For once, I saw many people queue up at clinics to get MCs to extend their long weekends over the Chinese New Year. I also know that quite a lot of people choose to take leave to go for long vacations over the weekend so they didn't report for work on 3rd Feb.

MOE cuts funding to Independent Schools

My daughter is particularly envious about the facilities these independent school enjoy because she belonged to that handful of pupils who failed to get in when she ranked among the worst 12% for CL in her PSLE cohort. She still managed to get into a good school because she likely achieved near perfect scores for the other three subjects. Sometimes when we drive past one of these schools or if she sees pictures of them,

Clueless about schools

So the G has cut its funding for six independent schools. How much? Dunno. But it seems that this is the “integrated programme’’ portion of the grant it gives to these schools. Another portion is for the Gifted Education Programme. That stays. How much? Dunno. Now, it seems that operating cost to finance a secondary school kid is about $10,800 ...

Singapore’s Education System – The Truth Behind The Myth

To me, one of the primary purposes of education should be to enable students to become capable, global-minded citizens, who have some kind of mental/spiritual/emotional involvement with their chosen line of work because of the contributions they can make to society, big or small. An education system which suppresses independent thought, discourages the act of questioning, and dismisses this thing called ‘passion’, is not going to produce ideal human beings.

National Service in Singapore: Army Daze Separating the Boys From the Men

One of my favourite activities is to listen (read: eavesdrop) when other Singaporean men talk about National Service. Like it or not, the fact is every male Singaporean has to go through it, barring the few who do their best to get the lowest possible Physical Employment Status (PES) so they can concentrate on the own commitments, then boast about it on social media. How each individual responds to the various challenges that NS serves up is what separates the boys from the men.

So Are We Just Not Going Tell Chinese People That New Years Was A Month Ago?

Apparently Chinese people actually think it’s New Years. They’re an entire month late. Aren’t these people supposed to be good at math? They keep saying it’s the year of the horse which I guess is code for doing a shit-ton of smack and being a whole month off on the ball drop. By now, most people have already broken all their resolutions and resigned to another abysmal year as they patiently await death – not the Chinese, they’re just now sleeping off their “last hangovers” and googling gym memberships. Swearing off dog and gluten at least until Chinese Super Bowl (Chinese Super Bowl is next month.)

NS FOR GIRLS: ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Fellow Singaporeans, I urge you not to fall into the government's trap. I will make this short. The government mouthpiece recently suggested women serving National Service. let me tell you now that that is the MOST STUPID SUGGESTION ever. It is even more stupid than the Eugenics scheme LKY came up with.

SPH sees further advertising and circulation decline

Singapore Press Holdings has suffered a 2.9 per cent fall in operating revenue from its newspaper and magazine assets for the first quarter of the financial year. The publisher of the Straits Times, Business Times and The New Paper saw advertising revenue fall by S$5.8m (US$4.6m) and circulation revenue slide by S$2.3m (US$1.8m) as staff costs rose by 2.5 per cent. However, because of increased rental revenue from the group’s property assets, the company’s operating revenue grew by two per cent overall.

PAP’S MID-TERM REPORT CARD

Two-and-half years has passed since the last GE and it is about time to assess how the govt has been doing. The massive housing problem has started to show some results. The backlog of housing needed has temporarily been transferred to the waiting list of units under construction. I won’t give credit to this as it was a self-created problem due to bad management.
