Selangor initially had the better start, with Shakir earning a caution as early as the third minute after failing to stop Juninho from marauding into the box. Dangerman Paulo Rangel then fluffed his shot wide from outside the box, with goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud looking stranded. VALENCIA FOOTBALL CLUB REJECTS PETER LIM'S BID

It must be a case of déjà vu for Singapore billionaire Peter Lim, who has failed yet again to purchase a top European club. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the 60-year-old has failed to make it through the final round of bidders interested in buying debt-stricken Spanich club Valencia. Lim placed a bid for the La Liga side in December, promising to clear the club’s debts and enable the completion of the construction of their new stadium, as well as providing a transfer fund of €50 million (SGD$87m) to invest in new signings.

LionsXII end pre-season on winning note

The LionsXII ended their pre-season tour of Yogyakarta in Indonesia with a 1-0 victory over PSS Sleman at the Maguwoharjo Stadium today (Jan 10). Khairul Amri scored in the 45th minute to give the LionsXII their second win in three games – after a 2-1 victory over PPSM Magelang on Tuesday and a 0-3 defeat to Persis Solo last Saturday. Head Coach Fandi Ahmad said: “It has been a good tour – with three good matches that provided our players, especially the young ones such as Emmeric Ong, Ignatius Ang and Syafiq Zainal, a feel of the intensity of matches in front of big and vocal crowds.
