WRONG TAMIL TRANSLATION ON NDP PAMPHLET IS PRINTER'S FAULT

Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen has placed the blame for the poor translation of Singapore's National Day Parade (NDP) publicity pamphlets solely on the printer of the pamphlets.

The pamphlets, which contained nonsense words in Tamil which were supposed to read #OneNationTogether, were not proofread after they were printed. Dr Ng says the version they sent to the printer did not contain any errors.

The errors were discovered after they were distributed to a group of Primary 5 students attending National Education shows.

Dr Ng added that steps to prevent such lapses in the future have been put in place "as standard procedure for all translated texts in NDP distribution".

The NDP executive committee apologized on 11 Jul for the error.
