The daughter of a 72-year old lady wrote to the State media today highlighting how her mother was detained in the Women's Prison after going to the Police Post to make a report about a lost pawn ticket.
According to the daughter, the Police told the elderly lady that she was being arrested for failing to turn up in court for a "town council-related matter" ($400 fine over wrongful placement of potted plants) two years ago.
To rub salt into wound, the Police even put her mother who has a medical condition in handcuffs and leg restraints - as if afraid that the 72-year old lady would climb over the prison wall and escape (probably thinking she would do a Mas Selamat).
Now, if the Police can sit on their ass for two years, surely the matter is quite trivial to warrant even a police report, let alone detention?
And why didn't AMK Town Council speak with the elderly resident? What issue could be so severe to warrant taking a 72 year old lady to court??
