Dear A.S.S. Editor
With regards to the article yesterday that discussed Singapore's hot weather and the need to wear long sleeves and business trousers almost every working week, I cannot agree more with the writer.
Singapore's formal workwear, at least for those who work in offices, are unrelenting in the climate of Singapore. True, these office folks would be blasted by air-con offices when they are actually working, but once outside, there is no way you would not perspire in those clothes.
The question is, do we need to wear such clothes? Why is it a must? This is a western tradition, they can wear it because their climate is cooler. But why do we have to follow. If you don't wear something like this to work, why would upper management frown on you?
So really, the question is at the end of the day, why are we following the norms of western traditions, when we are no longer bounded by colonialism?
