According to statements issued by the US and Australian embassies in Malaysia, terrorists may be planning an attack at popular hawker destination Alor Street in Kuala Lumpur.
The US and Australian embassies have warned its citizens to stay away from the street, located in a shopping belt in KL's city center, and its surrounding areas. They say that terrorist organizations in the past had planned attacks to coincide with significant dates, but gave no further details.
A Malaysian police spokesman said that a statement will be issued later today.
Malaysia has arrested more than 100 supporters of the Islamic State group in the past two years, some of whom were allegedly plotting attacks in the country.
