S'POREANS NOT WORRIED ABOUT SMRT DELAYS, MORE CONCERNED WITH ARRIVING SAFELY

Singaporeans - myself included - used to get all worked up into a frenzy whenever the MRT broke down. Late for work! Late for exams! Uber surge prices! Surge of people spilling out of stations!

After today's train collision at Joo Koon station which injured at least 28 people, our concerns have escalated to a whole new level. Few talked about how students taking their A level Economics paper at 8am today were affected. Instead, the main concern now is not whether we can get to work ON TIME, but whether we can get there SAFELY.

Before, most straphangers felt safe standing throughout their journey without hanging on to the straps. Today, I reminded my kids and mum-in-law to always hold on to the "grab poles or hand grips", because a collision can occur at any moment without warning, like this morning.

How sad! Surely Singaporeans expect better?
