According to senior officials, Formula One is looking to expand its network and win new fans. Some insiders speculate that the organizers are trying to cut their reliance on the Singapore Grand Prix, which rakes in millions of dollars of profits for both F1 organizers and Singapore tourism.

Singapore's night circuit at Marina Bay is currently the only one of its kind. It is immensely popular among drivers and fans alike.

Talks have stalled however as the deadline for Singapore's contract looms in September.

Managing Director of Commercial Operations for F1, Sean Bratches, told reporters: "I’m spending a lot of time reaching out proactively to cities ... and think ultimately we will realise more street races than we have seen historically."

“We will go to iconic cities where there are large fan bases, particularly new fan bases that we can activate.”
