A netizen has written in to complain about the dangerous conditions of roads traveling in and out of Geylang in response to a tragic accident where an cyclist riding on an electrical bicycle was crushed beneath the giant tires of a prime mover.
According to the netizen, who is a resident staying at Sims Drive, he walks to work along Geylang Lorong 17 everyday and sees many road hazards that could lead to potentially disastrous accidents.
He says that within Lorong 17, there are too many cars turning in and out of buildings, with vehicles and large trucks traveling in and out of the busy area. There are also illegally parked vehicles, construction companies and other obstacles that prevent road users and pedestrians from seeing oncoming pedestrian or motorist traffic. Pedestrians are not the only one at risk as there are many cyclists and e-bikers who use these lanes as well.
The netizen says the majority of Geylang's roads suffer from this kind of problem, so the government should act on improving the road structure there.
