Disturbed Singaporeans who spotted a "memorial" for a non-existent mall collapse disaster took to Facebook over the weekend to express their bewilderment and disapproval of the exhibit, which is part of Resort World Sentosa's latest publicity campaign for this year's edition of its annual Halloween Horror Nights event to be held in September and October.

Netizens contributed photos of the memorial, which was dedicated to fake victims of a fictional mall collapse that allegedly took place on 17 August.

Several have come out to denounce the campaign as "tasteless", although RWS has stood by the campaign. RWS told reporters that it is aware of the controversy it has generated and says its aim is to publicize the event in an "eye-catching, original and unconventional way".
