SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has commended the police for their quick arrest of the two men suspected of being involved in the kidnap of a 79-year-old woman this week.
Posting on his Facebook page on Friday morning, Mr Lee said: "Great job by the Singapore Police Force, who arrested the two suspects who kidnapped Madam Ng Lye Poh on Wednesday so quickly."
"Glad Madam Ng is safe and sound. Also glad that her son, Mr Lim Hock Chee, alerted the police as soon as it happened, so that the police could rescue Madam Ng and solve the case," he added.
Police arrested the two suspects in the early hours of Thursday, less than 12 hours after Mr Lim lodged a police report.
The two men, both Singaporeans, were charged in court on Friday.
In his Facebook post, Mr Lee also said: "Kidnapping is a very serious crime. The punishment is life imprisonment or death. We will deal with the perpetrators to the full extent of the law."
