The Housing Development Board (HDB) issued a statement yesterday confirming that Mr Marcos, a Filipino worker who was mistaken for a con artist, was performing legitimate building inspections for the authorities.
The confusion arose after Mr Marcos turned up at the door of a resident, who called HDB to confirm his identity. A HDB staff member mistakenly told a resident that there was no inspection going on, and this led the resident to believe that Mr Marcos was a con man.
In a Facebook post, HDB said the notice is "not a scam". Instead, its appointed consultant will show a copy of it to residents when asking for permission to enter their flat to conduct the inspection.
"We apologise for the mistake and for causing unnecessary alarm. We will improve our process so that our staff manning our hotlines can provide residents with the most updated information," HDB said.
