According to reports from South Korea, North Korea fired a shell across the border into South Korea. This prompted the South Korean military to respond with a barrage of artillery fire. DPRK is believed to have been aiming at a loudspeaker that has been blaring anti-Pyongyang broadcasts ever since the land mine attack against Seoul.
In response to North Korea's aggression at around 4pm local time, South Korea fired tens of 155mm artillery rounds at the source of the shell. South Korean military is now on its highest state of alert.
North Korea has previously threatened military action if South Korea continues with its anti-Pyongyang broadcasts and had demanded them to stop within 48 hours.
As of press time, there were no details on any injuries sustained but towns along the South Korean border were being evacuated.
