Dear A.S.S. Editor
Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Amrin Amin said that about 45% of accidents caused by heavy vehicles in the last five years were driven by foreigners. Although that means local drivers still take the bulk of responsibilities for accidents involving heavy vehicles, the difference is really marginal.
45% of foreigners causing accidents driving a heavy vehicle is worrying enough. Do they know Singapore's road rules and regulations enough? Do they actually know the norms of drivers using Singapore roads? They might be licenced, but experience driving in Singapore is different from driving in any other countries. Should these foreigners be allowed to drive heavy vehicles in the first place?
Driving a heavy vehicle leaves little margin for error. If you make a small mistake on the road, the results can be devastating.
