45 year-old Yeo Poh Kwee has been charged in court for running and dragging his pet dog by the leash to its death while running down 20 storeys.
The heinous act took place on 31 December 2016. Yeo had earlier tried to abandon his dog by leaving it between levels 18 and 19 of his Teban Gardens Road flat, before eventually deciding on the sickening act of cruelty.
Later that day, he ran down the stairs from levels 38 to 19 of the block, dragging his pet dog on a leash and causing it severe injuries. The dog eventually died from the abuse.
Yeo also faces charges for causing the death of another male dog named Brownie slightly more than a month before this. He is accused of failing to take the male dog to a veterinarian for treatment of its injuries sustained a day earlier.
His case will be heard before a community court on 11 October.
If convicted, he faces up to $15,000 and/or jail of up to 18 months on each charge of causing unnecessary harm to an animal. For pet abandonment, he faces up to $10,000 in fines and a 12 month jail sentence. For keeping a dog without license, he faces a $5,000 fine.
