According to a netizen, Joan works as a foreign domestic worker in Singapore. She allegedly drove her boyfriend's vehicle on Singapore roads at night, which contravenes her work permit regulations as foreign domestic workers are not allowed to obtain driver's licenses. Driving without a valid license is also a crime under Singapore traffic law.

Under MOM law, foreign domestic workers cannot obtain driving licenses and thus are not allowed to drive, except in special cases where a family might require a maid to drive them.

A ministry website states:

"A foreign domestic worker (FDW) is employed to take care of the domestic household needs of the employer’s family. Driving a motorised vehicle is not an essential component of household work, thus, an FDW should not drive as part of her domestic duties. Doing so would constitute a breach of the Work Permit conditions.

"The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will consider, on a case by case basis, where a family has special needs and seeks approval from the Ministry to do so."
