Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the failure of SMRT staff in performing proper maintenance have caused the good work of others to go to waste. He had harsh words to say in a speech for the Public Transport Workers' Appreciation Day at Bedok Town Square.
He said the flooding incident had tarnished the reputation of Singapore and Singaporeans. Nevertheless, he said this can be a turning point for SMRT as long as the CEO and its staff put in more effort. At the end of the day, "SMRT staff themselves must do the 'heavy lifting'".
He understands that public transport workers have been struggling with heavier workload over the years and thus encouraged commuters to show appreciation whenever they can.
Why does it seem like he has more harsh words to say than showing appreciation to his workers?
