JOSEPH SCHOOLING CLINCHES FIRST ASIAN GAMES GOLD FOR SINGAPORE

INCHEON: Swimmer Joseph Schooling won Singapore's first gold at the Asian Games in the 100m Butterfly finals in a Games record time of 51.76 seconds, beating China's Li Zhu Hao who was in second place.

This is Singapore's first men's swimming gold since 1982.

The 19-year-old came in at the turn in first place, and managed to fend off the competition from second-place Li and Japan's Hirofumi Ikebata, who clinched bronze, to come in first.

He had earlier won Singapore's first medal in a male swimming event at the Asian Games in 24 years, grabbing bronze in the 200m Butterfly event.
