HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR HAWKERS AFTER JURONG FIRE ROBBED THEM OF THEIR LIVELIHOOD

In Singapore, we are crazy about our hawker culture.

From Bourdain's admiration to Michelin stars, we cheer when others discover what is distinctly a Singaporean treasure. It's also an affordable treasure, made possible by a collective commitment by our hawker community to have as many people access it as possible.

In the early hours of the morning on 11 October 2016, a fire broke out in Jurong West that ravaged a wet market and 2 coffee shops. Left behind were charred stalls and unusable equipment. Hawkers now have to wait in uncertainty, anywhere from 1 to 3 months before the coffee shops resume operation.

With no insurance and limited savings these hawkers are vulnerable during this transitionary period, many of these hawkers will be left with little to no immediate income.

It's time to come together and show our support and appreciation to the ones who've kept our tummys full and our taste buds happy even on our toughest days. Stand Up For Our Singapore is crowdfunding funds to help these hawkers tide through this transitionary period and ease the financial strains of restarting their stalls. It's time to put our money where our mouth is and show our support for our very own hawker heroes.

To have affordable, delicious food cooked for us is a privilege made possible by the many men and women who dedicate their time & skill at our coffee shops and hawker centers.

Let's put our money where our mouths are, let's show them our love by helping them through this difficult time.

Details:

In our interviews, the average costs to restart a hawker stall averages $8-10K.

We hope to raise $100K to support them in their restart efforts or even if it would help supplement lost income for the journey ahead.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could as a community restore them to full working order?

CREDITS:

For the crowdfund we are partnering with BDO LLP, an established accounting firm to administer the crowdfund and disbursement to the identified hawkers. BDO LLP have generously volunteered their time and service.

We have been working with the local MP, Mr Ang Wei Neng and his team to identify the 22 vulnerable hawkers affected by the fire.

And we have the support of www.bigredbutton.com.sg in producing the media and design for this campaign. Big Red Button has generously volunteered their time and service.
