FAKE HOUSING AGENT COLLECTED FEES FROM CLIENTS THEN RAN AWAY

A 30 year-old man had posed as a housing agent and collected fees from unsuspecting clients before he was caught by the Singapore Police Force.

According to a police news release, the man had posed as a fake agent between May 2017 and July 2017 and scammed several victims who had placed advertisements online for rental of their units.

The man then collected rental fees from the victims on the pretext of helping them rent out their units before becoming uncontactable.

Police officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division and Clementi Police Division arrested the suspect at Block 194 at Pandon Loop on 6 July 2017. Preliminary investigations also revealed that the suspect had also engaged in renovation scams.

He has been charged in court under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 for Cheating.

If found guilty, he may face up to 10 years jail and a fine.
