Dear A.S.S. Editor
The man responsible for throwing an ofo bike off the 15th storey of a HDB flat at Block 11, Upper Boon Keng Road have been revealed. He was named as Selamat Mohamed Ali, 47, who is understood to be a butcher. He has been sentenced to nine weeks jail.
Selamat committed the offence on June 22, and he becomes the first person to be sentenced for throwing a shared bicycle from height. A second charge of dishonestly misappropriating a $300 ofo bicycle was taken into consideration in sentencing. Selamat's act of throwing the bike had narrowly missed Madam Rajamanickam Jayalakshimi, 42, and her husband, who were sorting out newspapers to sell and deliver to residents at the void deck at 5.36am that day. The bike fell barely 5m away from them.
It was understood that the bike was one of two belonging to an ofo employee, whose job was to collect and return ofo bikes. Selamat was also reportedly on the way home after a drinking session at an Orchard Towers pub when he made a detour for the 15th floor lift landing to rest. He lives at the block. No reason was given by Selamat on why he had thrown the bicycle down.
