Roy Ngerng has been quiet on Facebook in these past months, but his instagram account (@ROYNGERNG) suggests that he is indeed in the Republic of China.

Mr Ngerng contested in the 2015 General Elections under the banner of the Reform Party in Ang Mo Kio GRC. He is best known for his CPF activism, where he championed the rights for Singaporeans to regain access to their retirement funds.

In May 2014, Mr Ngerng got into a legal tussle with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong when he accused PM Lee of being “guilty of criminal misappropriation of the monies paid by Singaporeans to the CPF”. Mr Lee sued the blogger and forced Mr Ngerng to apologize. He was ordered to pay Mr Lee $100,000 in damages and $50,000 in aggravated damage to Mr Lee.

In September 2014, Mr Ng was arrested for organizing an illegal protest at Hong Lim park and causing a public nuisance along with co-organizer Han Hui Hui. He was convicted and fined.

Mr Ngerng now joins a list of activists who have fled Singapore - Vincent Wijeysingha, to Amos Yee, to Han Hui Hui.
