The incident reportedly took place on 19 August at Singapore Expo.

According to an eye witness, the taxi driver was "on call" and waiting for another passenger. When a Malay family wanted to board his taxi, they were rejected and they became angry.

The father of the family began to curse at the taxi driver, insulting him with words like: "I got money lah, you're so poor that's why you're a taxi driver!"

Although the taxi driver kept calm, he retaliated by showing his wades of cash to the abusive man and his family. This was when the daughter of the family started to act gangster and curse in Hokkien vulgarities at the taxi driver.

The Malay family had to be held back from assaulting the taxi driver by a kind Indian family, who told the aggressors to back off.
