Thai police confirmed that a bomb explosion occurred outside a religious shrine in central Bangkok. After the explosion outside the Erawan Shrine, body parts were scattered everywhere. 12 people have been reported dead and scores injured.
National police spokesman Lietenant General Prawut Thavornsiri told reporters that it was a motorcycle bomb and a second bomb near the blast area was being defused.
Officials said that the bomb attack in the heart of Thailand's tourism district was aimed at destroying Thailand's economy and tourism. 12 people have been killed and 78 were wounded in the attacks.
Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said: "The perpetrators intended to destroy the economy and tourism because the incident occurred in the heart of the tourism district"
