A local bakery was fined $90,000 for having unsafe working conditions that led to the death of one of its employees in 2015.

Shella Lee Shin Shin, was working on the production floor on 21 August 2015 when she slipped on the oily and wet floor. Lee was wearing a pair of her own shoes instead of the usual safety shoes.

She suffered traumatic brain injuries from the fall and was pronounced brain dead the next evening.

MOM criticized the bakery for failing to keep its floor conditions safe and provide anti-slip mats and install warning signs. The company was charged under the Workplace Safety and Health Act.
