Dear All Singapore Stuff,
I was looking through the scholarships portal and one particular scholarship on offer caught my eye. It is the A*STAR India Youth Scholarship which is opened only to Indian Nationals. The website only provided registration details and the list of benefits that Indian scholars would stand to gain.
There was no mention of "scholars" having to serve a bond in exchange for this scholarship. If this is true, these Indian Youth Scholars would get 4 years of free education, 4 years of free allowances and many other subsidies without having to contribute back to Singapore in any way.
Singaporeans will understand if foreign scholars are made to serve a bond but why are these scholars given free bond-less education and support when many Singaporeans are yearning for such benefits?
This is a misuse of taxpayers money that does not benefit Singapore or Singaporeans in any way. You can check out the details below.
The A*STAR India Youth Scholarship is tenable for 4 years leading to the award of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education ‘Advanced’ (GCE ‘A’) Level (or equivalent) certificate.
The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from Secondary Three to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactory performance of the scholar.
