According to media outlet TheNewsLens, Singaporean blogger Amos Yee has been granted political asylum in the United States after the judge deemed that his past arrests and convictions were persecutions for his political opinion.
His lawyer stated that the judge “concluded that Yee's 2015 arrest and convictions clearly constituted past persecution on account of Yee's political opinion.”
Amos Yee who has been detained since December 2016 is now eligible for immediate release from jail. Amos Yee will now be able to live his life in America and no longer needs to return to serve National Service which he has openly dreads.
Congratulations to our freedom fighter Amos Yee. You are the shining star whom all Singaporeans should learn from.
