Tampines Residents Traumatized by Noisy Bird, Wrote to Koh Poh Koon But Nothing Happen

Dear Editor,

My neighbours and I are facing some pet birds nuisance at a HDB estate in Tampines. We have tried communicating with the owner in question but he was very rude, spewing expletives and slamming his door in our face.

We tried contacting HDB, Town Council, NParks, AVA and even the MPs of Tampines, but nothing has been done to improve the situation. In this day and age, it seems like no issue is taken seriously until it goes on social media.

Our neighbour’s pet birds are macaws. They get very noisy when they squawk, and they go on for days on end without stopping. It is ok if the noise is temporary, but it lasts throughout the day for several days and is especially disruptive for people who are working from home. Unfortunately for us, the owner seems to find no problem with that.

In addition, the owner likes to leave their birds at the common corridor, sparking hygiene concerns.

We have tried and exhausted all means and ways to better our current living situation. Dr Koh Poh Koon, who is supposedly in charge of our estate, has failed in his role of working for his people. We have written to him countless times, but have yet to hear back from him.

It is disappointing that Singaporeans have to resort to posting on social media because MPs fail to solve problems. Hopefully through this, we can raise awareness and have them take real action instead of sweeping away our concerns like they don’t matter.
