People’s Association (PA) is under fire for putting up a Malay couple’s wedding photo as part of its Hari Raya decoration at Radin Mas Constituency. It did not even ask them for permission!
Most importantly, using a photo of a bride and groom in traditional costume does not represent Hari Raya. Shouldn’t they know that?
Radin Mas MP Melvin Yong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong, and PA have apologized to the couple. The vendor engaged by PA was also sorry for the infringement. However, it does not discount the error as it was a very insensitive and inappropriate thing to do.
It is even more ironic as PA was established for the sake of promoting racial harmony in Singapore:
Look what it has done.
PA said that it will take responsibility, but it remains to be seen if anyone will really have to “take responsibility” and bear some consequences. PA also clarified that it takes these breaches seriously. Question is, if it truly did, would it have made such a blunder? What do you think?
