GE2020: Hwa Chong Advises Students To Refrain From Posting Election Messages On Social Media

Just before nomination day, Hwa Chong Institution sent out an email to all students regarding their online behaviour for the Singapore General Elections. The email basically warns all students not to post anything related to the election on their social media, including Facebook, YouTube, Tik Tok, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, WeChat, WhatsApp and Telegram.

Hwa Chong, what is the intent of shying away from politics? What are your values in terms of developing your student body to become valuable members of society after graduating your institution?

This is very disturbing, painful and regretful. Students should learn how to critically think and evaluate, and make informed decisions. Not be molly-coddled and told what to believe and what not to believe in.
