Facing a surge in confirmed Covid19 cases in Singapore, further Circuit Breaker (CB) measures were announced on 21 April 2020. Among the businesses affected by the lastest tightening CB were the forced closures of bubble tea outlets the next day.
Hoards of bubble tea fans dying to have a taste of this drink rushed to cluster queue or made delivery orders. This caused an influx of orders to bubble tea outlets islandwide. In some instances, there were so many orders that staff were overwhelmed. This caused some tempers to flare and staff being shouted at.
However, a positive story surfaced despite this rowdy time. Facebook user Kat Senin shared her story about her GrabFood order. While the delivery rider was eventually unable to buy her bubble tea, she continued to write him supportive messages and also gave him a tip for this wasted trip.
