An employer who hires foreign workers complained that the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) policies suck. His criticisms include how MOM comes out with multiple policies daily, and how information about these policies are passed on to employers inconsistently. He wrote "some send by sms, some by email and some through the news".
He also explained that employers also face constraints and limits, and urged the ministers to walk the ground to see how employers are scrambling around trying to keep up with their short-notice policies.
On example this employer gave was he initially offered to house his workers separately out of their dormitory to keep them safe. While MOM initially gave green light in the morning, by 3.30pm MOM changed their mind without explanation. A MOM officer then allegedly told this employer if he bring his workers out of the dorm, all their work permits will be cancelled.
Hopefully MOM will spare a thought for such employers who are doing their best.
