SDP Suspends Ground Campaigning And Outreach Due To COVID19

SDP became the latest opposition party, after WP, to stop their ground campaigning and outreach program for the General Election, due to being socially responsible and keeping to the rules of social distancing introduced by the government. This after the PAP itself has refused to rule out any GE in the near future, indicating that it is unconstitutional for a party to exceed their Parliamentary term after April 2021.

In his message which was circulated to their members, volunteers & supporters, SDP’s Secretary-General, Dr Chee Soon Juan said that this was the right thing to do in light of the worsening Covid-19 outbreak in Singapore. His message in full reads:

“I want to let you know that in light of the worsening Covid-19 outbreak in Singapore and the heightened measures to prevent its further spread, the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) will suspend our ground campaign and outreach with immediate effect. This will include stopping our house-visits and walkabouts to our constituencies until further notice.

Thank you all for the hard work you’ve put in knocking on doors and selling The New Democrat. We will resume our outreach as soon as circumstances permit.

Until then, stay home and stay safe.”

Another opposition party taking the responsible approach to all Singaporeans. So, when will it be the PAP’s turn? It was them who asked for Singaporeans to be socially responsible in the first place, which is sound advice.
