Khaw Boon Wan: Get Ready For Higher Transport Fares To Alleviate Public Transport Subsidies

It has already begun. Singaporeans have not even began to enjoy their GST gift from the government, news of rising cost for Singaporeans have hit the news. Transport Minister and Henry Thia lookalike Khaw Boon Wan said in Parliament on Monday with a straight face that the government is currently subsidizing 30% of public transport operations, and that Singaporeans should expect higher fares for public transport to keep subsidies in check.

Khaw said that the total cost of running the rail network has increased by about $270 million between 2016 and 2017, and that rail companies are operating at a loss. The increase expenditure was brought about by the efforts over the recent years in improving rail reliability.

So, to get things into perspective, more money are being spent to improve the rail networks that keeps breaking down, commuters are penalised for the lack of reliability on the part of the world class transport system the government are promising us, and thus, to make sure we get even more subsidies to make our rail liens better, we, the commuters, must spend more on public transport cost to help pay off the mounting costs. Give chicken wing and take one whole chicken, the PAP style.
