The family of Mr Shaun Tung, a security guard at rooftop bar 1-Altitude, is seeking answers on how he fell into a construction hole and died. According to his colleagues who saw the incident, Tung, 26, was apparently trying to keep out two customers of the bar from a barricaded area.
He had spotted the two entering the cordoned-off area just after midnight on Sunday and he had run across to stop them. However, he likely did not know there was a hole in the ground. According to the father who visited the scene, even he did not know there was the hole that his son had fallen into until he was pointed to it. The bar is located on the roof of One Raffles Place, a 63 storey building. Mr Tung was a part time guard at the alfresco bar located at the rooftop of the building.
Police classified the case as an unnatural death, and is currently investigating the case. The Building’s owner, OUB Centre, and the MOM stated that the accident happened at an area that has been cordoned off for exterior building cleaning works, and that the hole Mr Tung fell into was a construction manhole.
Mr Tung was a father of a two year old boy, and he was cremated on Tuesday evening.
