GE Fight On! Tan Cheng Bock’s Progress Singapore Party Officially Registered

The PAP’s worse fear has indeed come true, as they will have at some point in time take on Tan Cheng Bock in an open election. This after his Progress Singapore Party, Mr Tan’s political party, have been formally registered on March 28.

Whether the green light for the registration have been given or not, it was not announced, as the spokesman for the party said that a formal announcement will be made int he coming weeks. Reports in the media indicated that the next step for the party is to hold an internal meeting to discuss their plans going forward. So far, Mr Tan had said in his Facebook posts that the party currently have 11 like-minded Singaporeans just like him. Mr Tan have been seen making visits to hawker centres in Bukit Timah, Ang Mo Kio and Ghim Moh in recent months.

The former PAP Minister, who was a six-term MP for the former single-seat constituency of Ayer Rajah until 2006, entered the Presidential race in 2011, in which he narrowly lose to Tony Tan. He was barred from entering another Presidential election last year, in what many observers say he would have won, as the President was reserved for a Malay candidate, in a last minute change to policy introduced by the government. It remains to be seen if there will be any other new change to policy to combat Mr Tan’s new party.
