DORM OWNER BARRED FROM OPERATING FOR UNSANITARY, INHUMANE HOUSING OF FOREIGN WORKERS

A Singapore dormitory operator, Yeo’s Brother Management, have been barred from operating and face up to 50 charges under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act (EFMA).

This after they were discovered to be operating unsanitary and unsafe dormitories for workers. The company operates Ama Keng Hostel, a purpose-built dormitory at 25 Ama Keng Road.

Workers who lived there had to contend with unsanitary toilet conditions, cockroach, mosquito and fly infestations and fire hazards.

The company may be fined up to $10,000 per charge.
