ACCUSATIONS OF GUTTER POLITICS WAS DURING BT BATOK BY-ELECTION, WHY ONLY DENY NOW?

I am disappointed in Tharman Shanmugaratnam. But it is understandable. He, after all and ultimately, is a politician with a political party.

Still, to say that the PAP did not engage in gutter politics during the Bukit Batok by-election is to bury his head completely in the sand.

What did Grace Fu do? Does he remember? What she did was uncalled for and has nothing to do with Dr Chee’s “character”.

His response to the question at NTU did not see him emphatically reject the suggestion that the PAP had engaged in gutter politics, even though that very term was used by the questioner, Kenneth Lin.

Why only now does he feel it is necessary to issue such a lengthy statement?

The truth is this: when accusations of gutter politics were directed at the PAP during the Bukit Batok by-election itself – including a public statement signed by almost 5,000 people calling on PM Lee to stop his party from engaging in such despicable behaviour – NOT A SINGLE PAP MINISTER, INCLUDING THARMAN, REJECTED THE ACCUSATION.

That in itself is telling.

Isn’t it?
