IMMIGRATION APPEALS COURT GRANTS AMOS YEE FIRST STEP TOWARDS FREEDOM

A federal immigration appeals court in the US has granted Amos Yee an asylum bid, echoing a Chicago immigration judge’s decision to grant Yee the right to stay in the US after fleeing from Singapore citing political persecution.

Amos Yee’s lawyers said that they received a favorable verdict for the 18 year-old, who has been incarcerated since December in various jails in the US while awaiting the results of his asylum bid and appeals.

Although he was initially granted an asylum bid by Chicago, the Department of Homeland Security had appealed against the decision saying Yee’s case did not qualify as persecution based on political beliefs.
