Dear A.S.S. Editor
Residents of a Jurong West HDB block are still left wondering when they will be able to take a lift up to their units, two months after the only lift that serves their units broke down. Lift D at Block 542, Jurong West Avenue 1 serves eight units in the four-storey block.
The lift was closed for maintenance works in July, after an incident where the lift fell four storeys to the ground floor and left one woman injured. Residents now have to take the stairs to their units, and some have voiced their frustrations, and noted that pregnant women and the elderly would be the ones that will be greatly affected by this inconvenience.
According to the Town Council, the lift should be back in service by the end of this month. The maintenance workers have reportedly said that the damage to the lift was so bad, that it will take months for the lift to be operational again. Residents have said that the lift breaks down every year, but this time around was the longest that it has been out or service.
